  • Marijuana is the most common drug abused know as the gateway drug
  • about 40% of high schoolers have tried some kind of drug before they graduated
  • most common high schoolers to use drugs are 11th and 12th graders
  • Teens with employed, uninvolved in extracuuriculer activites, have one parent, have depression,
or/and have average to low grades are more likely to try drugs
  • other common drugs are over-the-counter drugs
  • now a days ADHD meds are becoming a a popular abused over-the-counter drug(1998-2005=76% increase in abuse)

Abuse in Marijuana in high school:
  • seniors - 33%
  • sophmores 27%
marijuana is one of the very few % , meanwhile numerous other drugs continue to decline in abuse

Research shows that drug use often starts in the teen years. You might have heard that, but here’s something you may not know—the science shows that the younger you are when you start using drugs, the more likely you are to get addicted later on.

  • Many kids start using tobacco by age 11 and are addicted by age 14.
  • Between ages 9 and 13, kids begin to think that using alcohol is okay.

The average starting age for hard, addictive drugs like cocaine and heroin is only 14. And that is the AVERAGE. Many kids are starting at only 12 years old.
